Williams Archery is located in the small Pennsylvania town of Edinburg named after a town in Scotland. The Olde' General Store was built in the pre civil war era in 1836. This two story brick building was the hub of the town of Edinburg, Pa where locals gathered around the pot belly stove and shared the local gossip, news and exciting events of the day. Edinburg, Pa is the birthplace of Ira D. Sankey (1840-1908) who was an American Gospel singer and composer of music for such hyms as "Faith is the Victory", "Trusting Jesus," "The Ninety and Nine" and "Under His Wings." He was an evangelist, author and his father served as state senator in Pa.. He traveled with D.L. Moody in evangelistic work in the U.S. and abroad as solo singer/music director. At the breaking out of the civil war in 1861, he was one of the first to enlist in the service of his country. The Kukuski Indians were home to this territory where their village lined the Mahoning River which winds through the farm land. The old pot belly stove is no more and we have updated the 120 ft. long building with electric lights, but the same relaxed back atmosphere abides here in the Olde' General Store. The news of the day and the exciting hunting stories are still shared all the same. For the love of the sport-that is why we opened up the archery store back in 1989.
In our 20 yard indoor range, which is located on the second floor, from January through March we take our sport indoors with about 100 shooters. Our leagues include young and old alike. Whole families shoot side by side with our youngest members starting in the adult league when they can shoot an arrow 20 yards. Archery is one of the few sports that the very young ones and the very "seasoned" can participate together in the same sport, bonding together with a common interest.
We teach kids the sport of archery beginning at age six from January through March. Every Saturday morning hundreds of kids have passed through our classes. The excitement begins to build as all ages prepare for the Pennsylvania State PSAA competition every April where dozens of us enjoy our stay at the Holiday Inn in Harrisburg, Pa. anticipating the shooting events coming up the next day!
We are certified level 2 NASP Archery Instructors and teach the physical education teachers the National Archery in the Schools Program, which introduces kids starting in forth grade during the physical education class to competition archery throughout the entire U.S. Some of the school teams can qualify for state competitions and the nationals which in held in Louisville, Ky. each year.
We are a complete archery pro-shop and retail store, here to serve all your hunting and competition needs. We welcome you to stop in when you are in the area and sit a spell.
